Heat the oven to 150C/300F/gas 2. Chop coarsely the walnuts, dates, apricots, citron peel and cherries. Grate the chocolate. Sift together the sugar, flour, baking powder and cinnamon. Beat the eggs until pale and fluffy and mix in the sugar and flour. Add the nut and fruit mixture and the chocolate. Mix well. Pour into a well-buttered and floured 22cm cake tin, tap to smooth the top and bake for 30-35 minutes until the torte is golden brown. Cool on a rack and serve with whipped cream.
